See: Cottage decorating ideas – charming ways to get a characterful look

The property

Renovation experts All4House were enlisted to help on the project as was interior designer Amelia McNeil. ‘We had similar tastes,’ says the owner, ‘and I could see that Amelia had a clever eye for maximising space.’

Dining area

Built-in storage painted in a bold shade of blue creates a style statement as well as providing practical shelving. ‘The idea of a bookcase as a focal point was really appealing. For me, it’s the finishing touches that make all the difference and I was happy not to rush things in order to get a high-quality result.’

Kitchen

The color of the Crittall doors complements the bookcase and the industrial vibe is echoed in the slim breakfast bar. Understated wooden units line one wall and extra storage is provided in the well-stocked shelving above. For a note of luxury, the sumptuous yellow velvet sofa provides a very comfy place to curl up. Living room

Soft furnishings with a mid-century vibe reflect the colors of the painting. ‘I generally favour a neutral palette for creating a calm atmosphere with color and texture added through soft furnishings and accessories,’ explains the owner. ‘I also prefer natural products where possible, so Amelia suggested wood and sisal for floors, with wool and tweed fabrics.’

Bathroom

This elegant room is the owner’s favourite. The bold color and brass hardware bring contrast and drama to this largely monochrome scheme. For more cottage bathroom ideas, don’t miss our dedicated gallery.
