Gwyneth’s kitchen is elegantly understated, with traditional white cabinetry, eye-catching hexagonal black floor tiles, a large black painted kitchen island and – at the far end – a large round marble table which has doubled as a second office for her during lockdown. The general feeling is classic and sophisticated, but with a sense that it’s definitely the heart of the home, where her and her family gather to cook and catch up. We check out the key elements below that are the best to copy if you want to create her kitchen in your home. See more: Kitchen ideas – decor and decorating ideas for all kitchens
1. Glass-fronted white cabinetry
Gwyneth’s stylish glass–fronted cabinets create a light and airy feel and there’s no doubt that they are great for storage – especially as the wall units reach as high as the ceiling. A photo posted by on The advantages to this type of design are obvious: you can see where everything is in an instant and the glass can be space- and light-enhancing – but, of course, the downside is that you need to keep your items displayed like a stylist would – there’s no hiding with glass-fronted cabinetry. 2. Hexagonal black floor tiles
These stunning hex floor tiles are super-practical. Being black, they will hide a multitude of ‘mess’. However, practicalities aside, it’s worth knowing that, hexagon tiles are big right now. It’s an eye-catching and dramatic design detail that gives Gwyneth Paltrow’s kitchen an edge. A photo posted by on If you love the loo, we have found a good match at Nemo Tile + Stone who have stores in New York and Philadelphia; they’re called Seta Nera Hone 4 Hex (opens in new tab) and are made from natural stone.
3. Different countertop materials
There are two different materials used for the countertops in Gwyneth Paltrow’s kitchen, namely pale wood and marble on the kitchen island. The marble end also houses the kitchen sink. The countertops over the base units are all white marble with veining, as are the splashbacks, complementing the white cabinetry perfectly. Real marble is certainly a stylish choice, though it does come with a high maintenance price as it’s porous and prone to chipping, so we’re guessing that keen cook Gwyneth might have substituted it with a tougher lookalike.
4. A black kitchen island
We’ve seen sneaky peeks of the black painted kitchen island in Gwyneth’s Instagram feed and it looks like a beauty. Super wide, it’s both practical and the heart of the kitchen. There’s a lot of storage space – and you can see that the different-sized drawers are finished with stylish brass knobs and handles. There is open storage and room for bar stools at the other end, too. A photo posted by on
5. A marble-topped table and globe pendant lighting
The marble theme has been carried through to the large round dining table that seems to double as a home office for Gwyneth. It has very little veining compared to the countertops and adds a bright contrast to the black tiles and kitchen island. She’s teamed it with comfy white armchairs that are ideal for a relaxed WFH feel. For a similar table, try Jonathan Adler’s Caracas (opens in new tab) design which has a thick marble top. A photo posted by on Beyond her Intuitive Fasting (opens in new tab) book in the post above, you can see marble detailing on the walls, and there are some fabulous globe pendant lights, too, which is a great option to soften the scheme. Anthropologie has a good range – we like the Pirouette (opens in new tab) which would look great in a row above an island or dining table.
